UNECE – Inland Transport Security Discussion Forum

FIATA has participated at this Forum which took place on 31 January, 2011 in Geneva, Switzerland. Detailed information about this event will be given at the upcoming meeting of the Advisory Body Security Matters during the HQ Session 2011 on Friday 18 March, 2011 in Zurich, Switzerland. ALACAT Congress 2011

ALACAT, the Federation of National Associations of International Freight Forwarders and Logistics Operators of Latin America and the Caribbean, holds soon its annual congress 2011!

The ALACAT congress is the consultative body of the Federation on topics that are relevant to the activities developed by freight forwarders and logistics operators. The programs of the Congresses are carried out through the presentation of topics by special speakers and by work committees in charge of general or specific issues. In 2011, Colombia has been chosen as the country to hold the Congress, which will take place in the beautiful city of Cartagena, May 1 through 4, 2011.

Problems of Polish Trucks at the Russian borders

The quantity of quotas concerning the number of trips of Polish trucks to Russia were expired early this year, due to the fact that these quotas are negotiated bilaterally by Poland and Russia. Therefore no Polish trucks were permitted to pass the Russian border for a while. According to our Working Group Road adviser from Poland, Mr Wojciech, the situation has been normalised. Polish haulier just received Russian road permission. It means polish trucks are available on the market ready to load shipment all over Europe.

 

Ministers meet to debate "Transport for Society"

Registration is now open for the International Transport Forum's 2011 summit, to be held from 25-27 May. Transport Ministers, industry leaders and experts from around the world will gather in the city of Leipzig, Germany to debate the theme "Transport for Society". "Future transport systems will have to meet the aspirations of about 9 billion people, most of whom will live in cities. In addition, rising incomes will place higher expectations on transport services" said Jack Short, Secretary General, International Transport Forum.

The International Transport Forum at the OECD is an intergovernmental organization that acts as a strategic policy think tank for the transport sector and organizes an annual summit for Ministers from its 52 member countries and beyond. The summit has become the leading platform for a global dialogue on the future of transport and mobility between policy-makers, business leaders, research and civil society. It is an opportunity for transport leaders from around the world to debate and strengthen the sector's role in human development.

Air Freight Update - Egypt

Most airlines have removed embargoes and are resuming flights to and from Egypt. Cargo is now being accepted by most airlines but shipment delays can still be expected as backlogs of freight are cleared up. Please contact your local Airline's representatives for detailed information.
